Education Minister Calls for Stronger Alignment between TVET Programs and Employment Outcomes
The Honorable Minister for Education, Science, and Technology and the Chairperson of Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), Mr. Sasmit Pokharel, conducted an official observation visit to the CTEVT Central Office at Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, on March 30, 2026. This marked his first visit to CTEVT following his assumption of office on March 27, 2026.
The welcome program commenced with a comprehensive briefing by Er. Mahesh Bhattarai, Member Secretary of CTEVT, who outlined the Council’s ongoing activities, key systemic challenges, and strategic priorities. During the program, Mr. Choodamani Paudel, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (MoEST), directed that CTEVT should align its activities with the Government of Nepal’s recently enacted Good Governance Blueprint, 2026.
In his address, Minister Pokharel commended the employment rates of skill test graduates (66.37%) and technical education graduates (58.2%). For policy decisions, he emphasized the need for disaggregated analysis of graduate employment outcomes by type of institution. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of strengthening the linkage between Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs and gainful employment. Referring to the Member Secretary’s presentation, he stressed that the target of achieving a 75% graduate employment rate should be attained prior to the expansion of new programs or institutions. The Minister also instructed CTEVT to align its institutional plan and activities with the provisions of the Good Governance Blueprint, 2026.
Dr. Mohammad Saphiullah, Vice Chairperson of CTEVT, expressed appreciation for the Minister’s visit and his clear policy direction. He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to aligning its future activities with the government’s strategic priorities and said that the TVET sector would reach new heights under the Minister’s leadership. The program was facilitated by Mr. Binod Badal, Director of CTEVT.
Following the briefing, the Minister inspected the CTEVT premises and visited the Training Institute for Technical Instruction (TITI). During observations of the Instructional Skills - I and In-Service Training sessions, he interacted with participants to assess program effectiveness. The participants reported that the sessions provided practical knowledge and relevant skills applicable to their workplace settings.
